Florence Leake is originally from Mount Gilead, North Carolina and currently lives with her family in Charlotte, North Carolina. She is a long term employee of National Gypsum, a manufacturer of building products, as a senior cost accountant.

Leake has been a volunteer and advocate for children issues for years with focus on improving the educational opportunities of all students. She founded a mentoring program at one of the local middle schools in Charlotte to help students with their academics and raise their self esteem. At another middle school in the same year, she volunteered with Cities in Schools and tutored 7 Hispanic female middle school students. When Leake realized these students did not have computers in their homes, she challenged them to improve their grades and their rewards would be a computer for each of them. That year she raised funds and purchased and installed computers in their homes.

Leake is a past board member of The Children Advocacy Center, which focuses on the safety of children and prevention of abuse.

Currently, Leake has partnered with her husband and several childhood friends to found a nonprofit organization, Friends In Focus, concentrated in their home town of Mount Gilead, advancing the educational opportunities of the students and improving programs and activities for senior citizens.

Leake received a masters of business administration in 1999 from Wingate University and an undergraduate degree in business from Georgia State University in 1983.
